Birthmother Prayers: Equipping Adoptive Families to Pray

adoption agency in alabama

When you choose adoption through Lifeline, you will be matched with families who not only desire to grow their family but also care deeply about you. Our families are equipped to think about how they are going to honor their birthmother in their home once they have adopted, but they are also encouraged to pray for you during the process of waiting. The following is a list of prayers each family has been provided with. These are written by a Lifeline birth mother who placed over 15 years ago.

Pray that God places her in the right place at the right time. Oftentimes, God works by planting seeds at times when we don’t even realize it.  So by praying your future birthmother is in the right place at the right time could mean those seeds are being planted even before being pregnant or being faced with the decision of adoption.

Pray for her well-being and safety. Unfortunately, our world is not the safest place, and many women and girls are placed in harm’s way.

Pray that she knows of God’s unconditional love. Feeling unloved, lonely and facing an unplanned pregnancy can send birthmothers to a very low place where only God’s love can reach her.

Pray for your birthmother’s salvation. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. -Luke 19:10” Salvation gives us a promise of a better tomorrow in Him.

Pray she follows God’s will. Following God’s will is difficult especially when it asks us to place our children with strangers, but just as Jochabed trusted God’s will for Moses– so must your birthmother do with you.

Pray she finds Peace. “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.—2 Thess. 3:16”

Pray God sends her a strong support system. The decision to place is a lifetime decision and having a support system that helps your birthmother through birthdays, mother’s days, and other holidays will be necessary.

Pray for her pregnancy and delivery. So many things can happen during the pregnancy and delivery that can affect the child, the birthmother, and even the adoptive parents in the future.

Pray she makes the right decision. The decision of adoption is not an easy decision, so pray that if this is God’s will for her and the child– she will make the right decision.

Pray she chooses the right parents for her and her child. There is a exact match of birthmother, child, and adoptive parents that God has ordained.  Pray your birthmother chooses you according to God’s will.  Pray also that you are tender to her needs as well.

Pray she continues to grow and achieve her goals. Pray that she continues to grow spiritually closer to God, even after the adoption and pursues her dreams with God’s help.  One day, she may have a relationship with your child and you want her to be the best influence possible.

Pray for her future family. Telling future family members about a past adoption is scary and difficult. Pray that God leads the right people into her life into the future.
