Five Things to Consider When Choosing an Adoption Agency

If you are considering your options for your pregnancy, you may be exploring adoption as an option. There are many adoption agencies to choose from across the nation. Here are some questions to ask yourself when researching different agencies.

Will I have an advocate that is committed to me and my desires?

It is important to have your own advocate when making an adoption plan. An advocate is someone who you can talk to about your thoughts, concerns, and desires when making an adoption plan. If you choose to make an adoption plan through Lifeline, you will have your own advocate. Your advocate is who we refer to as your pregnancy counselor. Your pregnancy counselor will be focused on your desires and concerns. The adoptive parents will have a different advocate.

Will that advocate be a person that I can meet with face-to-face or someone in another state that I can only talk to on the phone?

It is important to meet with your pregnancy counselor face-to-face tobuild trust and to help you feel more confident in your plan. If you choose to make an adoption plan through Lifeline, you will be connected with a pregnancy counselor that can meet with you wherever is convenient for you at a time that works with your schedule.

Have the adoptive parents received training to understand and have compassion for me and my emotions?

At Lifeline, our families do not just desire a baby, but to a have a relationship with their child’s birth mother!

Will I sign an openness agreement with the adoptive parents?

This is your adoption plan. You will be able to talk through what you expect your relationship to look like with your child and the adoptive parents. At Lifeline, you are able to decide what level of openness you desire. You will be shown adoptive families who desire the same level of openness.

What happens if I change my mind any time during the process?

Throughout your pregnancy, you can change your mind at any time. This is your life and our pregnancy counselors what you to feel empowered to make the most informed choice you can for you and your baby.
